Koh Samui
Overview
Koh Samui sits in the Gulf of Thailand, mixing coconut groves with beach resorts. The island’s ring road connects busy Chaweng Beach to quieter bays and the fishing village of Bophut. Unlike smaller Thai islands, Samui has an airport and modern amenities while keeping its local feel in spots. Visitors find night markets, the Big Buddha temple, and waterfalls inland. The island catches less rain than the Andaman coast, making it busy from July to September when west coast beaches get storms. Most people stick to the east coast beaches, leaving the south and west quieter.
