Khao Sok
Overview
Khao Sok National Park stretches across southern Thailand, covering rainforest older than the Amazon. The park centers on a lake created in 1982 by the Ratchaprapha Dam, where limestone cliffs rise from emerald water. Visitors sleep in floating bungalows on the lake or stay in simple rooms near the park entrance. The forest holds gibbons, elephants, and rare birds, while trails lead to caves and waterfalls. Unlike Thailand’s beaches, Khao Sok stays green year-round, though most people visit in the dry season from December to April.
